Keeping Summer Pests Out of Your House

making ant trap with borax Pest Control Tips

As the weather continues heating up for the summer, you may be finding more pests in your house. While bugs that stay outside any not be bothersome, the bugs that make their way into your house can be very problematic. Keep these summer bug tips in mind to keep pests away this summer.

  • Tidy up – The less you have in your house to attract pests, the less likely they are to come inside. Keep your food in sealing bins, regularly throw away your trash, and sweep up any crumbs. If you have any moisture issues in your house, take the time to properly repair the issue to keep moisture seeking bugs out of your hose.
  • Buy some borax – Mix 1/3 cup borax, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1 cup of water in a jar, add a wad of toilet paper, and poke holes in the lid before closing. Ants will be attracted to the jar, but will not be able to escape. You can also sprinkle borax along the ants path where they will pick it up and bring it back to their nest. Just make sure that your pets and children stay away from the borax.
  • Plant the right plants – Both mosquitoes and houseflies do not like certain plants, including lavender, basil, lemon grass, mint, and rosemary. Either plant these in your yard, or keep a couple of pots on your porch to keep the flying pests out of your home.
  • Turn on a fan – Mosquitoes are not great fliers, and are easily blown away from a fan. Turn on your ceiling fans or a desk fan to avoid any mosquito bites.
