Tips To Keep Your Kitchen Hardware Looking Great

kitchen hardwareKeeping your hardware looking like new is a great way to keep your home looking its best! However, after months or years of use, your hardware can start looking a little warn and lose the luster it once had. While you could replace all of the hardware in your home every year, it is much easier and less expensive to spend some time cleaning it. Keep these tips in mind to ensure that your hardware is always looking great!

For chrome finishes, simply wipe the hardware with a soft, damp cloth. You can also use a high-grade chrome polish to restore the original satin finish and add shine to hardware.

For oil rubbed bronze finishes, wipe the hardware with a small amount of vegetable oil and a soft cloth. Be careful to only use a very small amount of oil, since too much oil can leave residue and come off on your hands when you touch the hardware. You can also use household detergents and a mild abrasive powder to restore the metal color of the hardware without seriously affecting the compound of the metal. If you do use a detergent, follow up with a paste wax.

All clear-coated and lacquered finishes should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth or a mild soap. Avoid all paint thinners and strong cleaning products on hardware since it will destroy the protective coatings of the pieces and cause rapid discoloration and oxidation.

Spending a small amount of time every other month to clean your hardware will ensure that it stays looking its best for years to come!
